Hello all and welcome to the eight dev diary. This past week we more or less finished work on the system to generate master schedules for your school. The yearly master schedule is generated once you click to begin the fall term. Once the schedule is generated then teachers will be assigned classes to teach and each student will have a unique schedule generated for them. We've talked about teachers and their traits in an earlier diary, so today I'd like to focus on students.
Students, like teachers, may have one or more traits. Some are visible to the player; others are not
Visible traits include:
Leader - have natural charisma and leadership. Where they lead, others will follow
Scholar - these are very bright students academically and will likely bring high marks on exams to the school
Athlete - these students are gifted at sport
Street Smart - a street smart student has practical know-how which can manifest itself in multiple ways; often will grow up to be entrepreneurs
Connected - coming from a well established family, this student can call upon family connections and influence for better or worse; a connected student might call upon his family to get him out trouble; conversely he may be able to bring in donations or government favors
Cheeky - cheeky students have a bit of a naughty streak, though non-malicious
Hidden traits include:
Orientation - is the student straight, bi or gay
Spanko - the student has discovered an early interest in giving corporal punishment
Sadist- students with this trait get off on inflicting pain on others
Deviant- a student with this trait has sexual interests far beyond the norm; like their teacher counter-parts with this trait they are potential incidents and scandals waiting to happen
Temper - students with a temper are more likely to get fights and physical alltercations
Criminal - a student with this trait is more likely to commit outright criminal acts
All students also have a responsibility trait that ranges from 1 to 10. The higher the responsibility the less likely a student is willing to break the rules. This can be for better or worse. Some students may simply break the rules for petty reasons (eating outside of the canteen) while others may opt engage in even criminal conduct depending on other traits.
That's all for this week. Next time we're going to talk about our goals and likely timetable for the alpha test early next year.
