This past week we worked primarily on the underlying system that will allow the game to generate master schedules for your virtual school. We're just about finished; we need to do a little more tweaking for the differences between schools following Asian vs. Western class structures.

We also did a bit of work updating the starting map which you can see in the following screenshot. When the game begins you will be given a largely empty plot of land on which to build. A fence is established around the school property and there is a road and sidewalk which lead into your school. A small starting parking lot will be prebuild.

Aside from those things we also have been tweaking things for easier map scrolling and placing of buildings.

Today I'd like to touch on subjects that will be taught at your school as well as how class scheduling will work. There are eight subjects:

1. Computers
2. English
3. Gym
4. History
5. Math
6. Science
7. Foreign Language
8. Liberal Arts*

There are four academic periods each day (aka "block scheduling"); this means each term students will study four subjects out of the eight above. What foreign language is offered will be chosen by you as part of your school's core policies. You will have the choice of Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese and Japanese:

* - The Liberal Arts class is a collection of smaller classes grouped together that meet less frequently than everyday. Such smaller classes may include Art, Music, Politics, Driver's Education, Health, etc.

You might have also noticed the newly added option on the core policy screen: maximum class size. You will be able set the maximum number of students in each class to 16, 24, 32 or 40. (As always these numbers may change as a result of play testing once the alpha begins and player feedback comes in.)

Teachers will usually teach two classes per day; with some teaching only one if there are an odd number of classes.

That's all for today! Until next time.
