Some of you, particularly those using Windows, may have encountered security warnings or even automatic deletion of game executables when trying to run Discipline Master games.
Why This Happens
It's important to understand that these warnings are neither your fault nor ours as the developers. They stem from the unique nature of the D.M. game series:
Incredibly niche audience: Discipline Master games cater to a very specific and small player base. This limited exposure means that Windows and antivirus software may not immediately recognize our game executables as "known", safe programs.
Limited recognition: As very small, independent developer that sells directly to you via our website (as oppose to Steam, Epic Game Store, etc) we simply do not have the same level of recognition as larger, mainstream developers. This can lead to security software being more cautious when encountering our files.
New executable files: Most often, these warnings occur when we issue a "new" executable file, whether it's a new game release or an update/patch. Initially, security software may flag these new files as unfamiliar, but over time, they typically begin to recognize the executable and deem it "safe."
How This Affects Security Measures
Windows and antivirus software often rely on how common a file is to determine its safety. Simply put, because our games aren't widely distributed, the executable may be flagged as unfamiliar. Security programs are designed to be cautious about uncommon files, sometimes erring on the side of overprotection.
