Hello everyone. Summer is here, and I wanted to share an update on how development for School Simulator is progressing and what we’re aiming to accomplish over the next few months.

Rewrites of Pathfinding / A.I. Decision Making Systems
Recently, progress on the more 'visible' aspects of the game has been a bit slower. This is because we’ve been focused on rewriting the pathfinding and A.I. decision-making systems. Since this is our first game of this genre, some of our initial design choices did not work as well as we hoped, making it harder to expand the game with new scenes and parts of the day. Over the past few weeks, we brought in outside development help, which has been a great boost, and we are now more confident about moving forward.

Adding The Full Day
With today’s update, v28, we have added Academic Periods 1, 2, and 3, along with the passing periods between them. Our goal is to have the framework for the entire school day finished by the end of the month, with the lunch period likely coming next week. Once this is in place, you’ll be able to simulate a full day, from students arriving to leaving, with the game rolling over into the next day. After that, we’ll start focusing on adding more events and activities during the school day, beyond just students and staff moving between classes and offices.

Player Control / Interaction
We know that, apart from construction, player control and character interaction are pretty limited right now. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, our main priority is to ensure the simulation itself runs smoothly—making sure everyone gets through the school day and knows where to go and when. Once that’s solid, we’ll be ready to introduce more player control and ways to interact with characters. Think of it as laying down the main tracks before building out the branch lines.

Save Games
I understand that not being able to save your game, except for constructed schools, can be frustrating. This is mainly due to the way development is structured right now. If we added a save system at this stage, it would likely break compatibility with old saves every time we release a new build, since new data types are being added frequently. Once the core simulation is stable and mostly complete, we’ll be able to add a proper save system.

Graphics
At the moment, graphics are our lowest priority, especially since most assets (particularly character sprites) are planned to be replaced. This probably won’t change over the summer, as our focus remains on the systems mentioned above.

Community Feedback
Lastly, we truly appreciate all the feedback we've received. It has been incredibly helpful and encouraging! A lot though has been sent e-mail to us. We would kindly like to remind everyone that posting your feedback (as wells as bugs and technical issues) here on the forums is encouraged, as it helps build community discussions and allows everyone to benefit from the conversation.

Have a fun summer everyone!
