Hello guys. Today we released early access build v15, the first on new our regular Thursday release schedule. While we did not get to implement everything we initially planned, we are getting closer to validating the underlying, core functionality of the game.
First and foremost, the rather cumbersome and finicky keyboard based system for cycling through and selecting characters on the screen has been removed entirely. Character selection (be it for controlling or interacting) is now handled entirely from the command menu during simulation mode. It is simply a matter of clicking a button on the menu and then hovering your mouse over a character and clicking to select it.
Interacting with characters (both self and with others) is also handled entirely on the command menu, and no longer via pop up windows.
We've also revamped and combined the various information displays into one information bar on the bottom left and center of the screen. This information bar displays the current tile the mouse is on, the characters currently being controlled, interacted with and/or highlighted, what room and information about it the mouse is on and the period time. We've also consolidated all messages (be they normal or build errors) to display in the center of the information bar. (Note: If playing in low resolution (under 1920x1080) the bar will be split spread across both the top and bottom of the screen.)
Finally, aside from a number of misc. fixes, we've also updated the system for displaying non-pre-rendered text in the game. This allows us to easily size the text as well as display non-Latin characters. Ideally the various messages displayed in the information bar, currently only in English, will be ready for the game's other supported languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Russian, German, French and Spanish) for the next build.
We'll focusing this coming week as well on ensuring that the new interface and changes introduce 'just work', then continuing on the road to Homeroom.
