I feel the build menu on the side of the screen for construction works well. The pop up windows though for placing specific rooms or customizing them feel cumbersome and inconsistent with the overall design. Perhaps you can consider integrating all construction options into the side build menu.

We could do the same for the character interaction screens. Instead of having it cover the middle of the screen, it could be redesigned to appear on the side too, similar to how CP mode works now.
