Hello everyone! Welcome to another developer diary for School Simulator. Before opening your school, the first step is to design and construct it, which we discussed in the previous dev diary. The second is to decide on initial management policies.

Choosing School Type
On the initial policy screen, you will have two major choices:

/community/index.php?t=getfile&id=89&private=0

School Type:
You can select either a 'Western' or 'Asian' school model.

Western Schools: In this model, students transition between different classrooms throughout the day, encountering various classmates in each subject. While there is a homeroom class and a Headteacher ('homeroom teacher'), their role is primarily for taking morning attendance and making announcements. Homeroom teachers do not handle disciplinary matters; instead, these responsibilities are typically managed by individual subject teachers.

Asian Schools: Here, students remain in a single classroom, with subject teachers coming to them. They share the same classmates for all subjects. For special subjects like gym, the entire class will walk together from their classroom to the special subject's location. In this model, headteachers hold considerable authority and are often involved in addressing disciplinary issues referred by subject teachers.

Class Size: You will also determine the maximum number of students per class: options include 16, 24, 32, or 40. This choice directly affects the total student population of your school. With a cap of 48 homerooms, your school could accommodate anywhere from approximately 90 to 1900 students based on your selections.

Authority
Next, let’s explore the authority screen where you can set up disciplinary measures. You will see a list of potential punishments and can assign authority for these measures to various positions to Prefects, Teachers, Gym Teachers, Sports Coaches and Administrators. If desired, you can choose not to implement certain punishments by withholding authority from all roles.

Punishment
The punishment screen allows for further delegation regarding corporal punishment policies.

Now it's essential to remember that your authority figures are not robots; they are influenced by their traits and the specific context of each situation. As such, they may choose to ignore or bend your rules and policies based on their judgment and character traits. More on that next time as we begin to look at the simulation itself.
